A bi-annual conference held at various locations around Australia; attracting science leaders, speakers and presenters and delegates from Australia and around the world.
Each ABTS encourages attendance in order for knowledge and experience to be shared for the betterment of the barley industry. This often involves social networking – a key critical pathway to success.
Where appropriate other industry forums are held in conjunction with the hosting of the biennial Symposia.
An Annual General Meeting is convened each year to provide an audit report on the Associations finances and for the election of office bearers.
In the years of the Symposium, the AGM is held in conjunction with the Symposium.
In other years, the AGM is held either virtually or in conjunction with another barley industry event.
Election of Australian representative to the International Barley Genetics Symposium – International Organising Committee
As part of its Objective to promote exchange of technical information concerning the barley industry, the Australian Barley Technical Symposium Inc shall be responsible for appointing the Australian representative on the International Barley Genetics Symposium – International Organising Committee (IBGS-IOC).
The appointment shall be made through a ballot process, conducted at the Australian Barley Technical Symposium held prior to each International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS).
Each appointment shall be for a single cycle of the IBGS, with the transition between appointments occurring at the General Meeting held at each IBGS.
Procedure for ballot.
– The Secretary will call for nominations for the position one month prior to the ABTS preceding each IBGS.
– Nominations shall be returned to the Secretary 10 days prior to the ABTS Inc Annual General Meeting at that Symposium.
– Nominations must be sent in writing or by email, and must include a proposer, a seconder and agreement of the nominee.
– The ballot will be conducted during the ABTS.
– The successful nominee will be announced at the ABTS Inc AGM.
In the event that the IBGS-IOC representative vacates the position mid-term, the Management Committee can appoint a replacement to complete the current term of appointment by either:
– Appointing a replacement by unanimous decision of the Management Committee, or
– Conducting a ballot process in a fair and reasonable manner.
Scientist under 35 years of age on 1 January of the year following the Australian Barley Technical Symposium qualify for one of two Awards:
Awards are available for best posters.
Membership of ABTS Inc is included in registration for the Symposium and extends through to the time of the subsequent Symposium.
ABTS Inc is listed as a not-for-profit Association, incorporated in Queensland.

The Management Committee of ABTS is responsible for ensuring an Annual Audit and the hosting of an Annual General Meeting.
Any profit from the hosting of the Symposia is used as seeding finance for subsequent Symposia and for incentive Awards.
